چکیده

The maxillary posterior teeth are most often the first to be lost in chronic periodontal disease. Not only does periodontal disease reduce the maxillary bone height but, as we age, the maxillary sinus expands into the alveolar ridge. This reduces the alveolar ridge height beyond that which may occur during the repair of an extraction socket and the subsequent alveolar ridge resorption. This is often exacerbated by long term use of removable prosthetic appliances. These factors make the maxillary posterior the most difficult area in which to maintain or increase the alveolar bone support needed for implant care. Additionally, the bone quality tends to be softer (Type 3 & 4) in an area which must be capable of absorbing the heaviest occlusal forces. This current issue of The PerioDontaLetter discusses when and how the quantity and quality of bone mass can be increased in the maxillary posterior segments. As always, we will be happy to consult or assist you in the diagnosis and treatment of potential implant patients with alveolar ridge deficiencies. There are two major problems faced

Seasonal physiology of the wild raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides).

The raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides) is a canid omnivore with autumnal fattening and winter sleep. Farmraised raccoon dogs have elevated plasma leptin and growth hormone levels in the winter and depressed plasma cortisol and insulin concentrations during wintertime food deprivation. However, these parameters were not previously tested in the wild population. In the present study 37 wild r...

Rates of Influenza-like Illness and Winter School Breaks, Chile, 2004–2010

To determine effects of school breaks on influenza virus transmission in the Southern Hemisphere, we analyzed 2004-2010 influenza-like-illness surveillance data from Chile. Winter breaks were significantly associated with a two-thirds temporary incidence reduction among schoolchildren, which supports use of school closure to temporarily reduce illness, especially among schoolchildren, in the So...

Winter Air Temperature Change over the Terrestrial Arctic , 1961 – 1990

We evaluate two approaches to spatially interpolating winter surface air-temperature fields over the terrestrial Arctic from available weather-station records. We then examine 30 yr (1961–1990) of winter air-temperature change over the terrestrial Arctic through a timetrend analysis of interpolated winter air-temperature fields. We used monthly average air temperatures from 4984 Arctic station ...

Monitoring of Land Use in the Major Grain Crop Production Area Using Temporal Characteristics of Ndvi Obtained from Coarse Resolution Satellite Data

NDVI obtained from satellite at the pixel over the area of crop cultivation would represent a specific temporal profile, which could be discriminated from that of other land use. In this study, the author attempted to estimate the acreage of winter wheat sown area using multitemporal NDVI obtained from NOAA-AVHRR data. The study site was selected in the Huang-Huai-Hai plain in China, where the ...

Effect of Irrigation to Winter Wheat on the Radiation Use Efficiency and Yield of Summer Maize in a Double Cropping System

In north China, double cropping of winter wheat and summer maize is a widely adopted agricultural practice, and irrigation is required to obtain a high yield from winter wheat, which results in rapid aquifer depletion. In this experiment conducted in 2001-2002, 2002-2003, and 2004-2005, we studied the effects of irrigation regimes during specific winter wheat growing stage with winter wheat and...
